Specifications |
This car was under
restoration at the time that circumstances changed for the owner and
forced its sale. As you can see, the body has been partially stripped
and reveals good metal underneath. The remaining paint on the car is
above average and could be matched without great difficulty or the new
owner may consider finishing the paint removal process and painting the
car to their tastes. The car was originally red.
The interior is very clean as shown and will need nothing. That is a LaCarra brand steering wheel shown. The owner also has the stock Campy wheels. The ZF transmission has been polished but not rebuilt. It is reported as working properly prior to the removal of the engine. Under the front hood you will note upgraded masters, polished radiator cover which conceals a fresh radiator and fans. All carpets are in fine shape. The trunk is full with spare parts as shown including the original "webbed" headers. The engine bay has been stripped which is a big job in itself and shows good metal. There are polished shrouds, polished tanks, braided lines and many other costly parts. The owner reports that there is some rust in the rear suspension areas. It is not major or advanced but should be repaired. The body does not exhibit observable rust, however, we cannot present this car as being rust free. This should always be evaluated by an independent and impartial third party. It would be best to fully strip the car at this point and thoroughly evaluate the car. The new owner may only wish to refinish the exposed area as a cost saving measure. Who should buy this car? 1.Somebody that has restored a car before and can finish the job themselves. or 2. Somebody that can pay to have the work done and prepare this car exactly to their tastes. Who should not buy the car? 1. Somebody that just wants to hop into a car and drive away. We have other cars that will fill that bill! Project cars like this can be a fun experience for the knowledgeable enthusiast or if the car is placed in the hands of an experienced Pantera specialist. They can also be nightmarish if costs get out of hand! We think this car has great potential because so much of the work has been done and the quality of the parts used is a cut above the pack. The car would look superb in silky black or a re-spray in another exciting color. We are confident that the motor will rock when installed and tuned up. Perhaps a set of our 17 inch rims and Michelin tires with upgraded brakes and A/C would complete the package. Finishing the engine bay in shimmering black or matching color to the body would be the icing on the cake. For discussion purposes, the owner has asked us to seek offers for this car in the $25,000.00 vicinity. Assuming the selling price of the car was in fact, $25,000.00. Consider this: a. Engine replacement cost = $9,000.00. b. Polished ZF in good condition = value of $6,000.00. c. Value of remaining car = $10,000.00. You can also figure in all of the upgrades done and get an idea why this project car may make sense and be a value. To complete the car, assume paint work of $10,000.00 (it could be more or less depending on the quality required, whether a stripping is done, cost of body work and rust repair). A person with paint and body skills or with connections, can spare this expense partially. Indeed, some enthusiasts may rather have the car painted as needed and spare the cost for now of a complete paint job. Allow $5,000.00 for assembly, A/C work, brakes, etc. The total cost would be $40,000.00 + or -, perhaps more depending on the findings of the body shop. The completed car would be very sweet and in today's market would be a value. New engine, new paint, good underlying car, you get the picture. Call or email us to discuss this "opportunity" further. |
